Learn More About Greene Jewelers and Our Commitment to Quality
John H. Greene started the business along with his wife, Twila, in 1972, with humble beginnings in the basement of their Armbrust home. John’s passion for timepieces began in large part to an assignment he had with the U.S. Army during the Korean War. After being discharged, John went to school in Pittsburgh to become a master watch and clock maker.
Both John and Twila worked together for a few years at Howard Jewelers in Greensburg before starting their own enterprise. With steady growth, they soon moved their shop to the garage. They expanded the space three times to accommodate the business.
In all, John and Twila spent 34 of their 49 years of marriage working all day together. John garnered a reputation throughout the area for doing repair work on watches manufactured in Germany and France. The precision accuracy of these timepieces led to a contract with the Pennsylvania State Police.
When the Bulova company invented the first battery-powered Accutron watch for use in the space program, John was one of the first watchmakers in the area to visit the Bulova factory. There, he learned how to repair the new watches, further enhancing his reputation throughout the area.
Clara Ann Robare, John and Twila’s daughter, took over the jewelry store in 2006 after both of her parents passed away. As part of the family’s ongoing commitment to quality, Greene Jewelers continues to support and offer products that are made in the USA.
